Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are organic compounds commonly associated with crude oil, fuels and combustion by-products. Because they can contaminate water at very low concentrations, PAH monitoring provides a sensitive early indication of oil and hydrocarbon contamination.
